Suifenhe is accelerating the establishment of a wood products industry alliance to promote the full-chain development of the wood industry.

As China’s “Capital of the Wood Industry,” Suifenhe enjoys a strong competitive edge in the new landscape of China’s wood industry, providing a solid foundation for the city’s wood industry development. In 2017, China’s total import volume of timber reached 108.497 million cubic meters, of which 33.39 million cubic meters were imported from Russia, accounting for 31% of the country’s total timber imports. In 2017, Suifenhe imported 8 million cubic meters of timber from Russia, representing one-thirteenth of China’s total timber imports and one-fourth of the total timber imported from Russia. At the Suifenhe port, there are 98 timber harvesting enterprises operating outside China, while within China, as many as 704 wood-processing enterprises are located solely in Suifenhe City.

The China-Russia Wood Processing Trading Center welcomes small and medium-sized wood enterprises to set up operations there.

Recently, at the construction site of the China-Russia Timber Processing Trading Center—located on the east side of the intersection between Landscape Avenue and Provincial Highway 206 in the Suifenhe Border Economic Cooperation Zone—the reporter saw eight excavators as well as over a dozen other pieces of machinery, including trucks and cranes, busily leveling the site. The site is scheduled to be fully leveled by the end of this month. According to officials, the China-Russia Timber Processing Trading Center project is a new-type timber processing park that has been built to a high standard with an investment of 150 million yuan, meeting both fire safety and environmental protection standards. Covering a total area of 660,000 square meters, the park is planned to become a board production base with an annual output capacity of 2 million cubic meters. Once fully operational, the park is expected to generate an annual output value of up to 2.5 billion yuan. The project is currently under planning and construction.

Recently, the China National Forestry Industry Association has put on its agenda the task of organizing enterprises to actively participate in international rights protection efforts related to forestry products involved in the “301 Investigation” and in addressing trade barriers to forestry products. “Given that China is a major global producer and trader of forest products, the U.S.-China trade war and the ‘301 Investigation’ will impact China’s international trade in forest products and have broader repercussions,” said Shi Feng, Secretary-General of the China National Forestry Industry Association, at the 2018 World Flooring Industry Business Summit held recently. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Europe Wood Industry Professional Committee was established in Dongguan to promote timber trade along the Belt and Road routes.

[China Solid Wood Network] The China-Europe Wood Industry Cooperation Summit Forum was held on November 9, 2018, at the Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center. Based on feedback from market research and the needs of industry development, and with the aim of further promoting wood trade along the Belt and Road initiative as well as the development of China-Europe freight train services, the establishment of the China-Europe Wood Industry Professional Committee was announced at the summit forum. According to the introduction, the China National Forestry Industry Association—China-Europe Wood Industry Professional Committee is designed to leverage Europe’s abundant timber resources to meet the enormous demand for wood in the Chinese market, and to provide industry organizations with platforms for exchanging production technologies, fostering international cooperation, organizing exhibitions and forums, and conducting skills training.
